ELEVATE News: New Staff Announcement

Zoe Getman-Pickering
Program Coordinator, ELEVATE

June 28, 2022 — The ELEVATE program welcomes their newest staff member, Zoe Getman-Pickering. Zoe's background is in ecology and entomology, with a focus on the complex ways that plants and insects interact with each other. She completed her PhD at Cornell University, where she studied ways that we can sustainably protect crop plants from insects by replacing pesticides with natural fungi. For her postdoctoral work at George Washington University, she monitored the effects of periodical cicadas on forest ecosystems and studied how we could use cicadas as a model to understand the effects of climate change.

Zoe has spent hundreds of hours teaching people of all ages, from kindergarteners to college students to seniors, about insects and conservation. After chronicling the devastating effects of climate change in her research, she is excited to join a team that is actively working on protecting the future of our planet.
